Karachi Elections MQM Haqiqi & MQM Altaf Fight For Dominance In Landhi

Sporadic incidents of violence were reported at different areas of Karachi where voting begun this morning for third phase of local government elections, Samaa reported Saturday.

According to our correspondent, supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami and Muttahida Qaumi Movement clashed outside a polling station in Shamsi Society.

At least three activists were injured in the clash.

In another incident, workers of MQM and Muttahida Qaumi Movement Haqiqi clashed in Landhi’s Babar Market.

Reports said supporters from both the parties also clashed in Bilalabad area of Landi where MQM’s election camp was uprooted.

Rangers, meanwhile, arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control by dispersing charged mob.

Separately, tension prevailed in UC 12 of Lyari where polling started amid mismanagement and scuffles between supporters of different parties, prompting Rangers to baton-charge.

Only 234 out of a total of 4,141 polling stations in six districts of Karachi have been declared normal, with over 94 per cent of stations declared either ‘sensitive’ or ‘highly sensitive’.
